Communion With Our Spouses

“And further, submit to one another out of reverence for Christ.” Ephesians 5:21

This simple sentence acts as a hinge between the preceding verses that dealt with the spirit-filled life, and the following verses that deal with how to treat one another. The hinge that opens up the door is the fact that there is a third Person involved in every relationship - Jesus Christ. What a wonderful picture of communion!

The first relationship Paul deals with is the marriage relationship. I am sure this was no accident considering the marriage should be the first relationship every Christian deals with after their relationship with Christ because of how it functions as a picture of Christ and the church. Unfortunately, the marriage relationship does not seem to be the most important relationship in the church today as divorce continues to increase rather than decrease. Without even realizing it the church has lost its witness in the world. What is the cure? The only cure is communion with Christ.

Wayne Mack wrote, “According to the Bible, the marriage act is more than a physical act. It is an act of sharing. It is an act of communion. It is an act of total self-giving wherein the husband gives himself completely to the wife, and the wife gives herself to the husband in such a way that the two actually become one flesh.”

Join us Sunday morning as we open Ephesians 5:21-33 and learn how to have “Communion With Our Spouses”. God bless you all and hope to see you there!
