“Therefore I say to you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink; nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food and the body more than clothing?” Matthew 6:25
Did you know that worry is a leading cause of both physical and mental health problems today? Cancer, ulcers, depression and panic disorder are just some of the effects worry has on the human body. In fact, postmortem psychological reports indicate that most suicidal people feel an intense loss of control in their lives.
Someone once said, “Worry is a thin stream of fear that trickles through the mind, which, if encouraged, will cut a channel so wide that all other thoughts will be drained out.” It is sad to say this is not only true of worldly people, but Christians also. Many Christians are so consumed with worrying about what they will eat, drink and wear they forget to consider the One who is actually in control of all these things. Worry causes us to distrust God and substitute fear for practical action. Jesus makes it perfectly clear that worry takes life away from us rather than adding to it.
Are you worried today? Are you worried about tomorrow? If so, you can counteract worry by spending time in communion with Christ. Only He is able to comfort and console you in whatever you are going through.
Join us Sunday as we open Matthew 6:26-33 to discuss this extremely relevant topic with a message titled “Don’t Worry, Be Holy”. This text is very powerful and is certain to minister to all, so please pray about inviting someone in your life that is dealing with worry so that they may find comfort in the words of Jesus.
God bless you all and see you on Sunday!
